On many occasions over the years the Phillies commission me to create a painting of players that have achieved awards or have reached certain milestones. These paintings are gifted to the player by the Phillies as a token of recognition. When Howard was named Rookie of the Year in 2005 I was asked to do such a painting, which now hangs in his home. The background is a view of Baker Bowl the Phillies playground in 1911. Using the early baseball backgrounds was a theme I employed to express the continuum of the game of baseball.
