Perez-Steele Galleries created this set to introduce contemporary card collectors to the beautiful card designs of the past. The 50-card set was published in two 25-card series beginning in 1990 and included 10 players on five different card designs. Four of the designs featured the 1908 Rose cards, the 1909 Ramly cards, the 1888 Goodwin Champions baseball card set and the 1911 gold-bordered T-205 set of cards. The fifth card design was a Perez-Steele Galleries creation by Dick Perez. The edition was limited to 10,000 numbered sets.

GOODWIN
The Goodwin Champions cards, published in 1888 as a major competitor to the Allen & Ginter sets of that period, were inserts in Old Judge and Gypsy Queen cigarettes. The cards measured 1 ˝” x 2 5/8”; the set of 50 cards featured eight baseball players, the other 42 are “Champions” from other sports. Perez-Steele adapted the presentation to post card size and placed the player’s name and team in the bottom margin in lieu of the Goodwin cigarette advertisement. The American Card Catalog designation is N-162
