Babe Ruth was the greatest player in the history of the game. His records were so outstanding, both a pitcher and as a hitter, and his personality so extravagant and dominating, that he was "the game of baseball." It is unlikely that we will ever see his equal. Babe Ruth brought "power" to baseball for he was able to change the course of the game with a single swing. His 60 homers in 1927, set the single season record which stood for 34 years until Roger Maris hit 61 in 1961, in a schedule that was 8 games longer.
